Please note that this is a course preparing students for the Higher level of GCSE Maths. It is suitable for students looking to sit their exam in May/June 2026.
The reformed GCSE qualifications is being awarded on a grade scale of 9 (the highest grade) to 1 (the lowest). There is also the U grade which means "ungraded".
The number scale is not directly equivalent to the old letter one. However, the two scales do meet in certain places:
the bottom of grade 7 is aligned with the bottom of grade A
the bottom of grade 4 is aligned with the bottom of grade C
the bottom of grade 1 is aligned with the bottom of grade G
three number grades - 9, 8 and 7 - correspond to the two previous top grades of A* and A
In the current grading system, a score of 9 and 8 is equivalent to A*, 7 is equivalent to A, 6 is a B, 5 is a Strong Pass, 4 is a Standard Pass.
Please note that this course prepares students for GCSE Maths Higher which allows the achievement of up to grade 9 in the Maths GCSE examination.
